Music

Confidence and Teamwork

Music is part of daily life at Explorer West. Every student participates in vocal and instrumental music for all three years. Music strengthens, energizes, and engages our community.

Students learn to produce a good tone and proper intonation with their voices and instruments while learning how to work with others as an ensemble. They develop musical literacy skills by learning about the different clefs and how to read and write pitches and rhythms in multiple keys and time signatures.

The complexity of music reading and writing increases over three years as students are exposed to a wide variety of repertoire.

To demonstrate the skills and music that students have been working on each semester, every grade level puts on two performances a year:  Winter and Spring Arts Nights. These performances put students front and center as they lead each performance, including introductions and performing.
