Program Updates: Drama and PE – April 2025

DRAMA

It’s Show Season! Hooray!

We’re in full performance mode across all three grade levels and can’t wait to share the incredible work students have created!

Please see below for important details about performance dates and arrival times.

As space is limited, we kindly ask that families and students attend only their own child’s performance. For all shows, student drop-off is at 5:15 pm. While students prepare, parents are welcome to explore the art in the hallways, save a seat, or enjoy tea and cookies in the English room. Thank you for helping us create a supportive and comfortable audience experience for each cast.

6th Grade – Devised Theater in Action

Our 6th graders have transformed their improvised scene ideas into original class plays full of energy, humor, and heart. We’ve been using visual charts to track our many silly and creative ideas, and this week we’re focused on polishing rehearsals and adding a few final costume and prop choices. These delightful plays reflect the unique personalities and collaborative spirit of our fabulous 6th-grade classes.

Performance Date: Tuesday, April 29
Student Arrival Time: 5:15 PM
Show Time: 6:00 PM
Order: 6A will perform first, followed by 6B

7th Grade – Shakespeare Comes to Life

We’re wrapping up our blocking of Twelfth Night. Thank you for the support at home with this challenging and poetic text. Our teaching artist, Michelle Burce, will be joining us this week and next to help students refine their language and delivery. Meanwhile, our designers are busy bringing their vision to life, blending Elizabethan themes with a modern twist. We’re so excited to share this classic comedy through the bold and thoughtful lens of our 7th-grade ensemble.

Line Memorization Note: All students should now have their lines fully memorized, including those with approved extensions. That said, this is a complex text and a new performance style for many, so if your child is still working on memorization, please encourage them to reach out to me as soon as possible.

7A Performance: Wednesday, May 7
7B Performance: Thursday, May 8
Arrival Time: 5:15 PM
Show Time: 6:00 PM

8th Grade – One-Act Festival Finale

Our 8th graders are putting the finishing touches on their student-written, student-directed one-act plays, and the anticipation is high. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us for Build Day—your support made a big difference, and the sets and props look amazing. Special thanks to Lara Kratz for her generous time and guidance, which helped the design team elevate their work.

Content Note: Some plays this year explore mature or serious themes, including death, both with humor and gravity. We’ll be sharing more information soon. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Performance Date: Thursday, May 1
Arrival Time: 5:15 PM
Show Time: 6:00 PM

This festival is a true celebration of student creativity, voice, and collaboration. We can’t wait to share it with you!

HEALTH and PE

In PE, 6th and 7th grade students have been working on badminton and speedminton.

What’s speedminton, you ask?  Well, think of a badminton court without a net.  The boxes on the ends of the court would be the play area and the gap between the two boxes would be out of bounds.  The object is to get the birdie to land in your opponents court while preventing the birdie from landing in yours.  The equipment used to play this sport is also a larger racquet and a smaller but speedier birdie!

Eighth graders just completed their "Create a Sport" projects and enjoyed trying all the different unique sports created by their classmates.
