Art Update: January 2026
Visual Arts - All Grades (Sarah)
The art room is buzzing with activity. We’re getting things ready for Arts Night, but that hasn’t slowed us down for our ventures into new projects, techniques, and creative possibilities.
The 6th grade made and decorated portfolios into which they have collected their artwork. These portfolios will go home next Tuesday evening after Arts Night.
A printmaking unit is in full swing. The Gyotaku (Japanese fish print) pillows were a big hit.
The 7th grade completed their relief printmaking. Carving into the soft rubber blocks was lots of fun. They are currently brainstorming their design for a copper foil sculpting project, which begins today.
The 8th grade continues working on their Altered Books, and has started an exciting new art project combining art and art history. Enthusiastically selecting a shoe from the big bin’o’shoes, they are researching an artist, preparing and priming their shoe, and will be painting them in the style of their selected artist. A written assignment about the artist will accompany the artwork.
