Drama
Collaboration and Confidence, On and Off the Stage
Explorer West’s Drama Program:
- Increases students' appreciation for theater
- Develops an understanding of theater and acting techniques
- Builds confidence on stage and in front of groups
- Prepares students for high school drama programs
Many sixth grade students enter the program with little experience with, or knowledge about, drama. At the end of their years at Explorer West, students express and exhibit increased appreciation for theater and are capable of working at a ninth and tenth grade level. Many pursue extracurricular drama opportunities and continue their drama participation in high school.
All Explorer West students are in a school drama production each year. They make choices about the technical aspects of the production, and work in a clear academic sequence that builds their theater skills.
After three years in EW's drama program, students are able to:
- Present a monologue
- Tell a clear story
- Design for theater (lights, sets, costumes, sound)
- Work in partnership with other actors
