There are many reasons to get excited about spring at Explorer West! One thing that's happening now is art! The kiln has been working overtime and we've already gone through 200 pounds of clay. The 6th grade started with Greek Kylix bowls keeping in line with their focus on ancient cultures, Mesoamerican pottery is next. The 7th grade created coils in a variety of shapes and designs and formed them into bowls, and the 8th grade made masks inspired by the coconut masks of Latin American. The first load of completed projects was carefully placed into the kiln and came out earlier this week.

Art Teacher Sarah says:

"Ceramics is an overwhelmingly favorite medium and it is wonderful to have our young artists back in-person creating together with such enthusiasm."
