Grandparents and Special Friends
Each October, we host our students’ Grandparents and Special Friends. We enjoy taking this day to celebrate the people who know and love our students, who cheer them on from near or far and provide consistency and support. A Special Friend could be an aunt, uncle, family friend, older sibling, neighbor, or any adult who plays a meaningful role in a student’s life.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day is coming up! Mark your calendars for Friday, October 16. We’re excited to honor our guests and to thank them for being part of our community.
Doors open at 12:30 pm and the event begins at 1:00 pm. Grandparents and Special Friends will enjoy a short program in the gym, featuring student speakers and musicians, and will then attend an afternoon class with their student. Classes will feature interactive activities or discussions to get students, grandparents, and special friends mingling and having fun together.
Students and guests will end the day with refreshments, games, and community-building activities. At 3:30 we’ll say goodbye (’til next year!)
Here’s a sampling of experiences our guests enjoyed last year:
Parents/Guardians: Keep an eye on the Weekly Bulletin for opportunities to be involved. You CAN’T be a “Special Friend,” but you CAN still be an important part of this day. Please consider volunteering to help with check-in, photography, food service, and more. Visit our signup to see the options available.
Students: If you haven’t yet invited your guest, please be sure to do so as soon as possible. You’ll find the link to the invitation in the Weekly Bulletin. Deadline for registration is Wednesday, October 14.
Our roving photobooth plays a key role in this event. We love capturing the joy our guests and students bring to this day. Here are some smiles from last year’s Grandparents and Special Friends Day.
