Farewell and Safe Travels, Doc and Charlotte!

As our year ends, we want to say thank you and goodbye to two teachers that have both been integral members of our community. Charlotte Hill, our music teacher, will be moving to Hong Kong, where she will be teaching middle school music at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong.

Charlotte has been here for three years and, in that time, she has fostered a musical culture here where students gather in her classroom in their free time to rehearse together, try new instruments with confidence, organize lunchtime open mics, and learn to listen to one another and perform as an ensemble. As an advisor, she is patient and conscientious. She will be a tremendous asset to her new school and we will miss her very much.

Sherman English, our longtime Dean of Students and English Teacher is retiring after eight years at Explorer West. This also the culmination of a 40-year career in education. Doc managed so many logistics of student life and helped facilitate faculty collaboration here at Explorer West. He was a leader in maintaining a culture of mutual respect in our community. Additionally, he was passionate about sharing his love of literature and engaged with young people to nurture their love of English, as well as helping them become confident and skillful writers.

We are honored that he chose Explorer West as the place to spend this last chapter of his teaching career, but we are hopeful we can convince him to visit us as a substitute teacher in the future! We look forward to hearing about his new adventures, but he will be missed greatly in our daily lives at Explorer West.

Charlotte and Doc, we were happy to be able to wish you a farewell, and we are excited for both your futures!
