Applying to Explorer West Middle School

We welcome interested families to learn more about our school by exploring our web site or contacting our admissions team. If you are considering applying to Explorer West, please plan on coming to one of our three Open Houses. This is an opportunity to meet our staff, faculty, and students, as well as tour the school. Teachers will be on hand to discuss the differnt subject areas, curriculum and programs available at our school.

After attending an Open House, families are then encouraged to begin the application process. If you are ready to apply, please complete your application and submit it to the Director of Admissions. To be considered for a visit, please complete the two page Application, the Parent Input Form, and submit the application fee. In addition, please submit the request for transcripts and letters of recommendation to your student’s current school, teachers or mentors. Once those items have been submitted, we will schedule an Student and Parent Visit Day.

Student and Parent Visit Day

Visits are scheduled Monday through Thursday from October through January. Visits begin at 9:00. Visits typically last for two to two and a half hours. Visits maybe held in small groups with 1-3 families participating.

Students are paired with a student host and visit classes. During the visit, applicants will have a 15-20 minute interview with one of our faculty members with the goal of getting to know them better, leaning about their interests as well as why they are interested in Explorer West. Applicants will also complete a short math and writing assessment. We expect to learn the basic skills and techniques that students have mastered in those areas. We do not make the environment high pressure and the assessments are relatively short.

While Students are participating in classes and meeting with our faculty, parents will tour the school and see classes in action. They will be able to ask questions and meet various staff and some faculty. At the end of the tour, parents will have the opportunity to visit any of the classes they saw for a more in-depth observation.

Step 1: Attend an Open House or visit our booth at one of the school fairs we will be attending.

Step 2: Submit Application Materials.

  • Two page Application Form. Please attach a small photo of your child.
  • Application fee of $55.  Please make checks payable to “Explorer West Middle School”.
  • Parent Input Form
    • NOTE: These forms and fees are required before Student and Parent Visit Day

In addition, please:

  • Submit the School Records Request Form to your current school Registrar.
  • Request two teachers to complete a Teacher Evaluation Form
    • NOTE: These forms may arrive after the student visit day, but we encourage you to submit these to the school, teachers, and mentors early.

Step 3: Schedule a Student Parent Visit day

Important Admissions Dates

Application Deadline for the 2016-17 school year is 4:00 pm on January 14th, 2016. At that time we request all application forms, transcripts, and letters of recommendation be received by the Explorer West Admissions Office.

Admissions and Financial Aid Decisions are mailed on March 10th,  2016

New Family Agreements and Decisions are due on March 21st, 2016. Families accepting an offer of admission will be required to submit their deposit as well.

New Family Spring Picnic to welcome new students and celebrate the school year is on May 6th, 2016 from 5-7 pm.

First Payments for the 2016-17 school year are due in May. The exact date, to be determined.
